As the lead designer for Saint John’s University Athletics, I oversee the design and production of all game day materials, including programs, season posters, and pocket schedules for every sport. Johnnie Athletics—especially Johnnie Football—holds a legendary place in central Minnesota sports culture, and my role helps uphold that tradition through cohesive, high-quality design.

Problem :
Each season begins with meetings alongside coaches, the Sports Information Director, and the Director of Sports Marketing to plan timelines, gather content, and align creative goals. I manage every step of the process, from content coordination to design execution, ensuring both print and digital materials reflect the professionalism and pride of SJU Athletics.
One highlight of this work includes managing rapid design turnarounds for football programs—often creating new editions within 24 hours to meet weekly print deadlines. Beyond publications, I also led the design and installation of a large-scale mural project in McKendrick Hall, a central hub for SJU fans. The project transformed the space with new wall graphics, custom murals, and a lit SJU logo sign, all designed to enhance game day energy and celebrate Johnnie tradition.

Solution :
I developed a streamlined design process that balances speed with precision. Each season, I collaborate with coaches, the Sports Information Director, and the Director of Sports Marketing to plan timelines, gather content, and deliver cohesive materials for every sport. For football, I design and deliver game day programs within 24 hours each week.
Additionally, I led a major environmental branding project in McKendrick Hall—a key gathering space for fans. This included coordinating with facilities, vendors, coaches, and administrators to design and install large-scale wall murals, a custom lit SJU logo sign, and branded wall phrases to elevate the atmosphere and celebrate the legacy of Johnnie Athletics.






Challenge :
The primary challenge was balancing brand consistency with seasonal creativity under an extremely tight timeline. Worth It Candy needed their Halloween materials to be instantly recognizable as their brand while being different enough to feel special and seasonal—all completed within just 5 days.
Key Deliverables included:
Game day programs for all sports (print + digital)
Season posters and pocket schedules
Environmental design and large-scale wall murals
Custom illuminated SJU logo signage
Social and promotional graphics
Summary :
Each sport’s materials are designed to align with the broader Saint John’s brand while capturing the personality of the team. Football, basketball, and hockey receive additional collateral—like posters and schedules—to drive community engagement and support recruiting efforts.
The McKendrick Hall mural project transformed one of the most high-traffic areas in the athletic complex, creating a dynamic, photo-worthy environment that embodies school pride. The installation now serves as both a fan focal point and a visual anchor for the department’s game day experience.
This ongoing work strengthens the Johnnie Athletics brand, enhances fan and athlete engagement, and ensures Saint John’s remains one of the most well-branded and respected programs in Division III sports.
